They could have been a contender... MTV is indulging the nostalgia trend! Which of these throwbacks do YOU think most deserve the Moonman that previously eluded them?

Part of my Buzznet is Better than the VMAs project:
Vote for Best Special Effects here
12% Beastie Boys - "Sabotage" Directed by Spike Jonze Listen, all of y'all. It's Sabotage! The throwback video that parodied 1970s TV crime dramas was denied its glory in 1994.
2% Björk - "Human Behaviour" Directed by Michel Gondry Björk plays Goldilocks, plants a flag on the moon, gets eaten by a teddy bear, and it still wasn't enough to win in 1994. After six VMA nominations, maybe seventh time is the charm for Bjork.
0% David Lee Roth - "California Girls" Directed by Pete Angelus and David Lee Roth David Lee Roth takes us on a tour of sunny California (and his favorite women) in the "California Girls" video. Maybe he'll make a trip out to the NYC if you vote that his video is worthy of a retroactive Moonman!
2% Dr. Dre - "Nuthin' But A 'G' Thang" Directed by Andre Young (Dr. Dre) Snoop and Dre can make even a little picnic gangsta as they cruise around in a pimped out ride and spray a woman with malt liquor in the "Nuthin' But A 'G' Thang" video.
12% Foo Fighters - "Everlong" Directed by Michel Gondry We know why you still love this Foo Fighters video. You can relate to having crazy dreams about Sid Vicious, the Evil Dead and giant hands, too. Right?
1% George Michael - "Freedom" Directed by David Fincher What's more beautiful than George Michael's voice? Maybe several supermodels lip-syncing his song!
61% OK Go - "Here It Goes Again" Directed by OK GO & Trish Sie If exercise routines were as fun as this creative choreography, we'd hit the treadmill more often.
7% Radiohead - "Karma Police" Directed by Jonathan Glazer Hop into the driver's seat and chauffer Thom Yorke down a lonely highway in Radiohead's "Karma Police" video. Maybe karma will give Radiohead a Moonman win this year.
3% Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers - "Into the Great Wide Open" Directed by Jeff Stein Johnny Depp (as Eddie Rebel) makes a scene at the VMAs and wins a couple of Moonmen in this rock and roll fantasy video. Maybe Tom Petty can snag his own Moonman this time around.
2% U2 - "Where The Streets Have No Name" Directed by Miert Avism Not even the LAPD can stop U2 from doing things their way. Staging an improptu rooftop concert in the "Streets Have No Name" video was just the beginning.

There'sa lot of good songs there, but as videos go, The Beastie Boys take the cake. I love them.

Do you seriously expect me to choose between The Beastie Boys, OK Go, Dr. Dre and The Foo Fighters?! This is cruel and unusual.

But, as far as videos, it's definately a tie between The Beastie Boys and OK Go. Because, REALLY, treadmills and 70's pornstaches.

Hahahah. So true.
I think it's the best video ever made! Just brilliant! They definitely deserve a Moonman. :)

As belated and, let's be honest, irrelevant as the creation of this category is at this point in cultural history, it is nice to have a reason to dust off those videos again. I'm stunned that "Sabotage" hasn't won any -- is that really true? -- given that it seemed to be on MTV around the clock in its heyday; it was always more funny than significant though. I always loved the rebel spirit of U2's "Streets" video, and it was important in adding the band's legend. I think the OK GO vid is fabulous but as I recall, it really broke on YouTube, not MTV, so it's really a testament to how culture and technology have passed them by. I think I've got to go with U2. Just my two cents.

Karma Polic has always been an ingenious song and video.
My heart lies with Radiohead.
Always will.

They should have one. I think they had the most original idea of that year and it is so entertaining for being so simple. I mean seriously. It was brilliant.
